The Importance of Safeguarding Training

We recently held Safeguarding Training at Krowji, Redruth, with Helen Trelease.  Helen has a background in social work, but for the last 20 years she has combined this role with the delivery of multi-agency safeguarding training across Cornwall. Having worked within the Council for 25 years she now focuses solely on her independent role as a safeguarding trainer and consultant. The majority of her work is with schools delivering training and advising on safeguarding. She has delivered safeguarding training on behalf of the previous Cornwall Music Education Hub over the past 10 years.

If you have never undergone safeguarding training, it can be very difficult to distinguish which young people in your care may be at additional risk of mental or physical abuse or neglect. Safeguarding training gives a thorough overview of the different ways in which particular individuals might be vulnerable.  Helen's sessions include a review of the basic principles of safeguarding as well as an update on some of the current key safeguarding issues we all need to be aware of.  The sessions are interactive and bespoke focus on looking at safeguarding from the perspective of the work you do with children.  There is always flexibility to enable discussion of key areas that you feel less confident about.

I found Helen's style of presentation very captivating and would recommend the training to anyone working with children in any capacity. This knowledge is essential and without it I would have felt very unprepared for working with children. Helen made it interactive and gave us enough breaks to keep our brains stimulated.  I was very impressed by Helen and her ability to tailor the knowledge to all of our unique situations! 

Our Safeguarding Training is free to Hub Providers/Deliverers and Partners and there is a small fee for other individuals and organisations.  We expect to offer training again in the Summer term.
