ASONE Hub collaborative jazz development project with Tomorrow's Warriors - call out for music teachers

Published on March 28, 2023

We are looking to recruit a cohort of 12 music teachers from across Devon and Cornwall to participate in a jazz development project called MUSICAL PASSAGE.

This project is a collaboration between partners Tomorrow’s Warriors (TW), Radical Ecology, University of Exeter Arts and Culture, Eden, The Box, the ASONE Hub, Plymouth Youth Music Service, Devon & Torbay Music Education Hubs and Leskyn Kernow.  Its aim is to support the long-term development of a cohesive infrastructure for anti-racist jazz education across Devon and Cornwall, encompassing:

(1.) Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for music teachers,

(2.) jazz workshops in schools for students,

(3.) the establishment of a regular jam session for jazz enthusiasts of different ages and levels,

(4.) the consolidation of a live performance touring network of venues across the region.

Who is this project for?

We are looking for music teachers from Devon and Cornwall with a strong interest in Jazz.  The selected group of teachers will be invited to serve as the project’s core community:

(1.) working directly with Tomorrow’ Warriors musicians in CPD settings,

(2.)hosting Tomorrow’s Warriors musicians at local schools to support the delivery by TW of jazz workshops for students

(3.) leading on the delivery of regular, funded jam sessions that will move across the project’s geographical area to support the ongoing connectivity and participation of the teacher-participant cohort whilst also providing a point of contact and engagement for emerging musicians in each location.

The aim is that through the relationship with Tomorrow’s Warriors, the cohort will emerge as an autonomous network, active in and across the region whilst also connected through TW with the leading edge of the UK youth jazz scene.

Initial Commitment –

Ideally, we are looking for 12 participants keen to engage long-term in developing this infrastructure for the region. The initial commitment is to participate in the weekend (9th -10th June), participating in the CPD on the afternoon of the 9th and the jam session on the afternoon of 10th.  Accommodation in Plymouth on the night of the 9th and food on Friday evening and Saturday lunchtime will be provided.

Young people’s involvement

Participating teachers may also know of students who would be keen to engage with the Saturday class and jam session. Travel bursaries will be available for up to 20 students.
