Whilst we are delighted to have received several applicants for SAGB Chair we have had feedback that the marketing might have been better received post the ACE decision to re-invest in ASONE Hub.

In higndsight and with this in mind we are re-opening the recruitment window until  5pm the 3rd of June 2024.

Job Description & Person Specification 

Salary: Voluntary – Unpaid Position

ASONE Hub SAGB play an essential role in enhancing the effectiveness of the music education ecology in Cornwall to benefit children and young people and in supporting music educators to access high-quality training and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to develop their practice.

As outlined in the National Plan for Music Education (NPME), we commit to enabling all children and young people to learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together, and have the opportunity to progress their musical interests and talents, including professionally by fulfilling the aims of the NPME’s aims:

  1. All children and young people receive a high-quality music education in the early years and in schools.
  2. All music educators work in partnership, with children and young people’s needs and interests at their heart.
  3. All children and young people with musical interests and talents have the opportunity to progress, including professionally.

This is delivered strategically through: Partnership, Inclusion, Schools, Progression and Musical Development and Sustainability.

Role Overview

As Chair, you will work with the SAGB to ensure that high quality music education is delivered across Cornwall through strong governance and strategic oversight.

You will be a point of liaison between our ASONE Hub team and SAGB members to monitor the delivery an inclusive music education, fostering a culture where every young person can engage with music.

This role involves strategic leadership, enhancing partnerships, and ensuring diverse musical opportunities are accessible to all.

Responsibilities

  • Chair at least four quarterly meetings per year, in Cornwall or virtually.
  • Ensure the board operates within its Terms of Reference.
  • Make strategic decisions on music priorities and finances.
  • Identify needs and advise the program director and core team.
  • Promote ASONE Hub in educational and cultural communities.
  • Ensure accurate data reporting to Arts Council England.
  • Act as a critical friend, offering advice and accountability.
  • Foster open communication, support board member engagement, and manage conflicts of interest.
  • Support fundraising and act as an external advocate for the Hub.
  • Prepare meeting agendas and follow up on action items.
  • Attend key meetings with Arts Council England and staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Impartiality and independence in decision-making.
  • Commitment to the National Plan for Music Education.
  • Strong understanding of inclusion, diversity, equality, and accessibility.
  • Passion for music education and cultural provision, with relevant experience.
  • Strategic and creative thinking abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in governance, quality assurance, financial oversight, and working with diverse stakeholders.
