What is Carbon Literacy?

Carbon Literacy is an awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis (Carbon Literacy Project). The Carbon Literacy Project was set up to give everyone, everywhere, a day of training on carbon literacy - and in doing so, empower people to make positive change. Today, over 88,000 individuals have been certified as Carbon Literate and that number is rising fast.

What you will gain:

Carbon literacy is there to enlighten, educate and empower.Businesses and individuals taking part in carbon literacy training can expect to emerge upskilled and motivated to reduce their carbon impact both at work and in their personal lives. Each individual training will receive a certification, after submitting a small bit of homework online after taking part in the training. This specific course has a strong focus on what role SMEs can play in carbon reduction and provides organisations with an awareness of the climate-related costs and impacts of their activities and the ability and motivation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.Leap has been tasked as part of the Creative Manifesto to deliver a series of sustainability events for creatives. This course is designed and co-facilitated by Green Works - a specialist in Net Zero transitions and embedding sustainability within business. Green Works have worked in partnership with the guidelines provided by the Carbon Literacy Project to create a workshop that contains both essential climate knowledge, but also how to translate this into business actions that will make an impact.

Is this course right for me?

This course is aimed at SMEs in the Creative and Cultural sector within Cornwall who are looking to increase their awareness of carbon dioxide costs, impacts, and most importantly how to reduce emissions. We are trying to create a community of Net Zero champions within Cornish SMEs and so the course would be especially useful for those people who have a responsibility for sustainability and carbon reduction within their role (or would like to take the lead in the future)The course will enable you to empower your team to take climate action and will also give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to act to reduce your carbon emissions to support your company’s journey to Net Zero.
