ASONE Hub is delighted to announce new Head of Programme, Millie Young

Published on February 12, 2025
With a wealth of experience in music education, programme development, and musicianship, Millie brings both commitment and a unique blend of expertise to this important role.

Millie's musical education began in Cornwall and firmly cemented her desire to carve out a path in music. After moving away to further her studies, she then pursued a successful and dynamic career as a professional vocalist and music teacher in both London and Cornwall. With a degree in Musical Theatre and Dance, alongside a PGCE in Secondary Music and a Diploma in Popular Voice, her journey has been one of diverse experiences and unwavering dedication.

Alongside performing, at the heart of Millie’s work remains a passion for sharing her skills and fostering a love of music and community amongst young people. Previous educational roles include class music teacher, peripatetic vocal coach, primary music coordinator and borough ensemble leader, spanning ages from EYFS to Sixth Form. Millie is also experienced in curriculum curation, programme management and strategic development, having had roles as Curriculum Coordinator at Hackney Music Service and Head of Education at charity CoppaFeel!. She brings with her an accomplished musical background and strong foundation in both the delivery and developmental aspects of education programmes.

“I’m delighted to be joining ASONE Hub and grateful to have been given the opportunity to contribute to Cornwall’s rich musical culture,” said Millie. “I’ve seen first-hand the power that music has to create positive change and I’m driven to ensure that innovative, inspirational and inclusive music education is accessible to all. I’m looking forward to collaborating with partners and supporting music educators to nurture and empower the next generation of musicians and music lovers across Cornwall.”

In her new role, Millie will harness her experience and skills to respond to the needs of young people, partners and educators and curate an aspirational, impactful programme that fosters equitable music education across Cornwall. As Head of Programme, Millie’s role will be integral to advancing ASONE Hub’s mission of ensuring that all young people in the county have access to high-quality music education opportunities.

ASONE Hubs Chair of its Strategic Advisory Group, Susanna Eastburn MBE, said As a new in post’ Chair, I was part of the interview process and was immediately impressed by Millies level and balanced approach to what can be a complex landscape. I’m delighted that she is joining the growing team, and I very much look forward to supporting this positive and forward-thinking team and wider organisation.

Millie’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter as the newly updated Local Plan for Music Education comes into play that will deliver the Department for Education’s National Plan for Music Education, funded by Arts Council England.
