Call Out for Young Festival Assistants
The Music For Youth Regional Festival is an uplifting non-competitive event where groups of 2 to 60 musicians come together to perform to each other and to professional MFY music mentors. Over 900 performers have signed up to take part in the Cornwall festival this year - one of 30+ MFY festivals taking place across the UK. Participants can be of any age up to 21 years old but in practice most are of school age. Since the Cornwall festival started in 2010 it has been run by Tim Boulton each year with support from a team of young assistants. The Friday festival celebrates music in primary and secondary schools and out of school groups from across Cornwall and Devon, while the Saturday festival is for rock, pop and amplified bands.
If you would like to help run this exciting youth festival, developing practical skills and experience in event and stage management, read on!
Festival Assistants will help provide:
- Participant registration
- Stewarding and people management
- Stage management
- Public announcements and compereing (only for those who would particularly like to do so)
Festival Assistants will:
- Be advocates for the festival with a positive and encouraging manner and language
- Be willing and engaged members of the production team
- Communicate with young performers and adult group leaders
- Help with stage management, including moving chairs, music stands and lightweight equipment
Festival Assistants will be supported and looked after by music educators Tim Boulton and Patrick Bailey, along with members of the ASONE Hub team.
We are also looking for event Comperes to introduce each performance. The comperes may not necessarily be involved in other event management.
Time commitment:
Friday 3 March Truro Methodist Church
Saturday 4 March Heartlands, Redruth
Please email Tim Boulton [email protected] if you are interested in becoming a festival assistant or compere, by Friday 10 February.
