ASONE Hub - Subsidised Music Lessons and changes to our Policy for 2024/5

Published on May 24, 2024
In a bid to ensure accessible musical education for young learners across Cornwall, ASONE Hub has a comprehensive music lesson subsidy scheme funded by the Dedicated Schools Grant, courtesy of the Cornwall Schools Forum.
The subsidy is open to any child attending a Local Authority (LA) or former LA school who satisfies the eligibility criteria and is learning with an ASONE Hub Registered Provider.
How it works:
Registered providers can claim subsidies for eligible pupils for one of the following categories:
  1. 100% Subsidy (up to a maximum of £6.00 per lesson):
    • Children eligible for free school meals (excluding FSM Universal Entitlement for Key Stage 1 since September 2014).
  2. 50% Subsidy (up to a maximum of £3.00 per lesson):
    • Children in Care (excluding adopted children).
    • Children whose parents or the child receives Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments.
    • Children of Services personnel (where one or more parents serves in the armed forces of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).
  3. Special Educational Needs Students with Statements of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan can receive a subsidy for individual 20-minute instrumental or vocal lessons at the cost of a small group lesson (up to a maximum of £8.50 per lesson, regular small group fee applies). This subsidy is applicable if the student has an ECHP/Statement of Special Educational Needs, and the school deems individual tuition more beneficial than small group learning.
From September 2024, we are updating our a policy regarding subsidies:

ASONE Hub are legally unable to double fund learners and each pupil is eligible for a single subsidy however we understand that some learners may have exceptional needs. In such cases, we will carefully consider is addtional financial support is required.

  • If a pupil qualifies for more than one of the categories above, the higher subsidy band can be claimed.
  • An ASONE hub discretionary grant can be applied for on a case by case basis.
  • Applications for these discretionary grants must be claimed separately from the subsidy.
  • Applications for these learners must be submitted using a separate form and approved by ASONE Hub in advance of lessons starting for that leaner and every sebsequent term they continue with music lessons after this intial application.

This amendment to our policy ensures that our subsidy program remains fair and equitable while accommodating learners with exceptional needs.

Please make sure to read and understand our updated guidance here: ASONE Hub Music and Vocal Lesson and Instrument Subsidy Scheme 2023.pdf
ASONE Hub aspires to provides financial support to as many young learners as possible. The total amount of lessons this fund can cover is limited and we ask that you make your application as early as possible and that you do not commence lessons without knowing funding is available.
We do understand that pupil numbers may fluctuate throughout the term and we can accomdation this (within reason) with an addtional ASONE Hub 'lesson fund' budget contribution.
If the number of learners flutuates through the the term, please let us know as soon as possible as we cannot guarantee payment for additional learners and any drop out of learners can be allocated to new starters.
