ASONE Hub Welcomes Students for Summer Work Experience
Throughout July, ASONE Hub was proud to welcome fourteen students from Liskeard School & Community College, Sir James Smith’s School, Penair School, Richard Lander School, Hayle Academy and Pool Academy as part of our two-week summer work experience programme.
Students took part in one of three hands-on creative placements, each designed to give a real-world taste of careers in music and the creative industries:
Songwriting
Led by VIBE New Music Practitioner Ryan Jones, the students formed a songwriting collective where they collaborated by creating original music. They explored lyric writing, co-writing techniques, their creative identity and they also developed their skills in musical storytelling and peer-led critique.
Music Production
Also facilitated by Ryan Jones, the students in this placement learnt all about the process of music production, from building beats and recording live instruments to mixing tracks and using samples. During the placement the students were welcomed by the team at RouteNote, where they explored digital distribution and music publishing first-hand.
Office and Events Placement
One student joined the ASONE Hub office team, gaining experience in the day-to-day running of a busy music education organisation. Tasks included event planning, instrument care and tuning, Excel wizardry and contributing to an internal audit.
The Songwriting and Music Production placements formed part of a wider, county-wide creative work experience project led by Screen Cornwall, where students across Cornwall received a shared creative brief and responded through their chosen art form, ranging from music and design to heritage and screen media. Each group worked with professional mentors, and their creations will be showcased in a collaborative presentation later this year. Selected works will also feature in a 360° production commissioned by Screen Cornwall.
