ChoirFest 2022
ChoirFest returned for its second year at Truro Cathedral on Wednesday 16 November. ChoirFest is a school choir vocal development opportunity, created by Angela Renshaw (ASONE Hub Vocal Strategy Lead). This vocal engagement opportunity sets out to develop the profile of singing in school, as well as to raise the bar of vocal expectation for school choirs and acts as an ideal opportunity for school staff vocal delivery CPD.
School visits began in September with school choirs learning The Daniel Jazz, a short rock-style cantata composed by Herbert Chappell. Two ChoirFest performances took place at the cathedral: the first at lunchtime with schools from Jacobstow, Looe, Trenode, Darite, Leedstown, Tregolls and Grade-Ruan; and an evening performance with schools from Kea, Constantine, Treverbyn and St Columb Major. Cornwall Youth Training Choir joined the schools for the evening performance. The concerts began with each school performing their own choice of song and in the evening, we heard a duet from Emma and Lara and a solo performance from Paige (members of Cornwall Youth Choirs). The concerts closed with a mass choir performance of The Daniel Jazz.
