Unpacking the CAR: ISM Online Event for Music Teachers in England

Published on December 3, 2025

Join ISM for a consultation on what the Curriculum and Assessment Review (CAR) means for the future of music education in England and the proposed new National Music Curriculum.

The EBacc has finally been scrapped following the CAR’s final report, published on 5th November, but what else did the report recommend for music?

Featuring guest speakers Sally Bacon, Co-Chair of the Cultural Learning Alliance, and Kevin Rogers, music education specialist, the session will cover what music teachers need to know about the findings and recommendations of the CAR report, and the government’s response.

It will also feature breakout discussion sessions, giving you an opportunity to share your views on what the government needs to do to ensure music can flourish in state schools and what you want to see from a new National Music Curriculum.
