ASONE are excited to share details about an exciting young composer's competition offered by Liturina.

Liturina is an exciting young chamber group dedicated to exploring the potential of period instruments in diverse and challenging repertoire. Drawn together through their love of baroque chamber music, Iain Hall and Gabi Jones began playing together in 2017, and founded Liturina the following year, making their debut in St Albans Cathedral. The ensemble has been playing in its current setup since 2021.

Young Composer's Competition

Liturina is delighted to present their first young composer’s competition. The competition aims to create a complete work based on Bach’s single movement trio sonata, BWV 1040. Composers will have the opportunity to write one of the three missing movements, and the winners will have their work performed in a concert presenting the entire piece. The competition aims to complete the unfinished trio sonata BWV 1040 by Bach. Applicants should submit one movement, and three winners will be selected to produce a multi-movement final work. With a cash prize and recorded performance of the winning entries, this is a fantastic opportunity for young composers to interact with a specific brief, to make contacts in the industry and to explore writing for historical instruments. The competition aims to complete the unfinished trio sonata BWV 1040 by Bach.
